McCarthy provides injury update, Nabi headache?

Kaizer Chiefs defender Aden McCarthy has provided an update on his injury and when fans can expect him back in action as the side look to continue their near-perfect start to the season.

McCarthy has been one of the standout performers, rarely putting a foot wrong since the first whistle sounded against Stellenbosch FC last month.

He was awarded two back-to-back Man of the Match awards in the first two fixtures but was unfortunate to suffer an injury that rendered him unavailable for the ensuing encounter against Richards Bay FC.

Since then, Chiefs have played two matches without the left-footed centre-back, posting a draw and a win respectively in his absence.

Zitha Kwinika has stepped in to fill the void, with Given Msimango and Rushwin Dortley also still nursing injuries.

"I’m resuming training with the team this week, and I should be back very soon," McCarthy told journalists at the handover of a Multi-Purpose Sports Court at Phulong Secondary School in Springs on Wednesday.

With four victories and a draw from the five matches played thus far, the lad whose father also played for Amakhosi has revealed the secret.

"The Netherlands pre-season tour was amazing. It brought a different side of us out. The mentality, the spirit among the guys.

"I feel like we have gelled more. It has been shown at the start of our journey this season, so everything is positive," says the former DStv Diski Challenge star.

With Kwinika hardly putting a foot wrong since back drafted back into the line-up, it will be interesting to see which central defensive partnership Nasreddine Nabi will go against Sekhukhune United at FNB Stadium on September 16.
