Shabba joined by Khune in denial case?

Itumeleng Khune's insistence on the fact that he hasn't called time on his playing career has left him walking the same path with 2010 FIFA World Cup hero Siphiwe Tshabalala.

Khune has reiterated that he is not done playing even though it is now a year since he last played 90 minutes, which happened before he then got a token appearance in May when he was honoured for 25 years of service at Kaizer Chiefs.

"Like I have been saying that I want to play until I'm 40+ and have used references as (Essam) El Hadary and (Gianluigi) Buffon, and we have (Denis) Onyango and (Washington) Arubi in our own league.

"So, hence I'm saying I'm not writing off anything because I still love the game and passionate about it, which is why I'm keeping fit playing indoor in case something comes up.

"I cannot predict the future.

"I don't know what will come up, but I have to be always ready.

"I think this is not the right time for me to mention whether I'm retiring or not," says Khune.

Likewise, Tshabalala hasn't made the commitment that he is retired from professional football, though he last played competitive football in June 2021 while at AmaZulu FC.

Shabba has since turned 40 and of note is the fact that in that single season that he spent at AmaZulu (2020/21), he only played thrice.

Prior to that, he had spent over a year without a club after his season-long stay at Turkish club Erzurumspor FK.

This came after 11-and-a-half years at Chiefs, where he played with Khune – whose semi-retirement phase has come with taking up shares at TopBet through other business interests under his portfolio.
