Bafana Bafana legend Benni McCarthy has heaped praise Kaizer Chiefs' Yusuf Maart's for his wonder-goal in the Soweto derby, which has now been added as a Goal of the Season contender.
Maart's match-winning goal in the Soweto derby against Orlando Pirates in October has been voted the Goal of the Month by McCarthy and the Manchester United striker coach believes it should be a strong contender for Goal of the Season as well.
"My Goal of the Month for September/ October has to be Yusuf Maart versus Orlando Pirates in the Derby. It is an incredible goal," McCarthy said.
"Just the ability that he (Maart) has, the mindset that he has. He saw the goalkeeper off the line, and inside his own half, he decided to take a shot and try and beat the keeper from there. You don't see these kinds of things happening in South African football.

"So for a player to have that mentality and that audacity from that range gets my respect and it will definitely go down as one of the best, the all-time best goals in a Soweto derby in my opinion.

"I've played in a couple [of Soweto derbies] and I never came close to scoring a goal like that and Yusuf Maart has done that, so for me, it has to go down as Goal of the Month and maybe even a Goal of the Season contender.
"David Beckham has done it (scored a similar goal) many years ago in the Premier League, Wayne Rooney has done it and these goals were voted Goal of the Month and were contenders for Goal of the Season."
