‘It is rubbish to say Chiefs needs a coach who knows the club’s culture’

With Cavin Johnson having now ended his caretaker reign by sinking Kaizer Chiefs to an all-time low, the rot at Naturena has been described as needing a top international coach who doesn't know anyone at the club.

Chiefs ended the season down in 10th position with 36 points and a negative goal difference, which paints a clear picture of how bad they have become.

Amakhosi are in the kind of disarray that has never been associated with the club with a new coaching appointment set to be made at the start of the fifth consecutive season.

"A lot of things have gone wrong throughout the years and Chiefs and people in charge should take the blame," voices out Walter Rautmann, who has known Chiefs for all its existence.

Rautmann was already an established player who had arrived from Austria when Chiefs came into existence in 1970 and so has seen it all with this club.

"I played against Chiefs in the 70s when Kaizer Motaung was still playing, and they were a super club and then coached against them when they were still a great club.

"What is happening now is something that I have never known before, so it is strange that this club has been allowed to go down this way.

"I don't understand why some people find the energy to blame (Mamelodi) Sundowns for buying all the good players and winning everything.

"Chiefs is a far much bigger club than Sundowns, so I feel they should have no excuse in also competing on the market.

"You can't blame Sundowns for putting money into the game.

"Why are Chiefs being stingy when money is a huge contributing factor to why Sundowns or Manchester City are successful?

"Chiefs always used to have all the top players like Doctor Khumalo and Ace Ntsoelengoe and you had to be a big player to be at Chiefs.

"Nobody could just walk into Chiefs like it is happening now.

"Right now, anybody and I mean anybody who runs around kicking a ball can now play for Chiefs even if they are not up to standard, which is why they have been losing all these games.

"The recruitment is horrible at Chiefs.

"Even with coaches, it is a problem at Chiefs.

"With where they are now, they need a top coach from outside the country who doesn't know anyone at Chiefs.

"All this talk that Chiefs needs a coach who knows the club's culture or history is rubbish.

"The culture doesn't play football.

"What is the point of bringing in a coach just because he played for Chiefs and then only becomes friends with the players?

"Did the coaches at Sundowns and [Orlando] Pirates play for those clubs or did the coaches?

"They are in those jobs because they are competent coaches and not face-buying appointments based on the business of being a buddy with someone.

"Chiefs need a coach who doesn't know the culture and will be feared by the players for the good of the club.

"Players are naughty, so Chiefs need a strong coach from overseas who will hammer these players who are having it too easy earning big money doing nothing," says Rautmann.
