Gqosha: Maboe a good signing for Confed Cup

Kaizer Chiefs legend and former captain Lifa Gqosha has praised the Soweto giants for signing former Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder Lebohang Maboe.

The 30-year-old Maboe, son of former Orlando Pirates star Sydwell Maboe, was officially announced as a new signing by Amakhosi on Tuesday.

Gqosha believes that Maboe's addition will be beneficial for the team as they aim to excel in the CAF Confederations Cup.

As the 2025 Nedbank Cup champions, alongside Stellenbosch FC, Chiefs will be representing the PSL in this season's Confederations Cup.

Following several key signings, including Nkanyiso Shinga, Siphesihle Ndlovu, Ethan Chislett, Etiosa Ighodaro, Asanele Velebayi, Luke Baartman, Thabiso Monyane, and Paseka Mako, Chiefs look formidable this season.

"They’ve been signing quality players lately. Lebohang Maboe is an excellent signing for Chiefs. He's a great player," notes Gqosha.

"With his experience playing for big teams, Maboe can easily adapt to new situations. It’s important to recognize that Kaizer Chiefs will be competing in a CAF tournament, so experienced players are essential at that level.

"We can't always focus on building for the future; we need players who can share their knowledge as we develop.

"Maboe is a talented ball player, and that's where his strength lies. He’s very clever and knows how to utilize space effectively; that boy is smart."
