Kaizer Chiefs began their pre-season tour of the Netherlands with a 2-1 loss to Vitesse Arnhem on Tuesday evening.
New signings Thabiso Monyane and Flavio Da Silva were included in the Amakhosi starting line-up, while Aiden McCarthy partnered Inacio Miguel in defence.
Chiefs showed good glimpses on the ball, played out of the high-press and maintained a balanced defensive and offensive approach.
The Amakhosi came good though after 20 minutes as Mduduzi Shabalala intercepted a stray pass to get goal-side and shaved the face of the upright.
At the other end, the Dutch outfit threatened too when a measured cross into the six-yard box caused uncertainty at the back, but Monyane raced in to clear away.
Chiefs bagged the opener ten minutes to halftime after Reeve Frosler nudged possession following a high-press and fired in the top-corner with a powerful strike.
The Amakhosi came out of the second period with a completely new team, including new recruits Nkanyiso Shinga and Ethan Chislett, while Bruce Bvuma, Dillon Solomons, Gaston Sirino were also introduced.
Solomons didn’t cover himself in glory two minutes when he directed a cross from the right-hand side into his own net and levelled matters for Vitesse.
Vitesse was inspired by the goal and enjoyed more chances a little later as a free-header in the box forced Bvuma into a sprawling save.
The Amakhosi replied instantly as a through pass unleashed Tashreeq Morris in on the near side of the area, but the forward snapped well over from close-range.
Chiefs were caught square in the final stages and trailed when Andy Visser turned in space in the area following a loose ball and finished from close-range.
With time running out, the Amakhosi were unable to stage a comeback, leaving the Dutch second tier side to claim the victory.
