Chiefs defender gets ‘international return’ thumbs up

Inacio Miguel has been given reminders about the fact that his efforts at Kaizer Chiefs will ultimately lead to his return to international football again.

Miguel has stood up to good levels in his first season at Chiefs, where he has already earned the trust of playing as captain.

While the start of his time with Amakhosi was rough, the 29-year-old has been commanding enough to play 24 matches and score four goals.

Unfortunate for him is that he has not been the preferred choice of the Angolan national team selectors 16 months since his last appearance for Palancas Negras, who were disappointing during the March FIFA dates.

"I would want to believe that with the good work that he has done at Chiefs, the selectors will not ignore him for long," says Luis Goncalves, who coached Interclube in Angola last season.

Goncalves is familiar with Miguel having known him since his time in Portugal.

"What is important is that he is playing in a strong league on the continent.

"How can you ignore a player from the league from where the two PSL clubs in the quarterfinals of the Champions League – Mamelodi Sundowns and Orlando Pirates – come from?

"I can guarantee you that Inacio is being followed in Angola because there are a lot of Angolan people with respect for the PSL.

"Maybe for now he has been disadvantaged by the fact that his club Chiefs is not having the best of times.

"But I still want to give him my thumbs up to get back into the national team of Angola.

"It is normal that everyone has their own preferences and so, for now, they are going with another defender, but I know his chance is coming as long as he keeps his head up at his club," says Goncalves.
