5 questions Nabi has to answer to Chiefs hierarchy

After Kaizer Chiefs remained in the bottom half of the table following defeat to Polokwane City, head coach Nasreddine Nabi will have at least five questions he may need to answer to management.

Amakhosi face TS Galaxy on Monday at Mbombela Stadium, with kick-off at 15:30.

1. Why is the defence leaky?

Chiefs have conceded the most number of goals than any other team in the Betway Premiership.

The correlation is that they are actually yet to keep a clean sheet in the league.

Nabi could argue that he is operating with a nearly completely different back-line, with Inacio Miguel, Rushwin Dortley and Bradley Cross all new players and still needing time to get used to playing together.

The Angolan missing four games due to suspension has not helped matters.

2. Goalkeepers good enough for Chiefs?

New signing Fiacre Ntwari was in goal for five consecutive league matches and could not keep a clean-sheet.

Brandon Petersen was entrusted with the job for the past three matches in the Premiership and also conceded in all.

Nabi has now been tempted to use Bruce Bvuma, who actually arguably has better communication skills and presence in the box.

3. Why are attackers missing easy chances?

It's either there is a coaching issue or the attackers at the Soweto giants are simply not good enough.

The side got into a new season with the same strike force that had a combined 25 goals in 30 league matches in 2023/24.

Given that Chiefs have already scored 12 goals after eight league games, Nabi seem to have done his part, as on average they have improved, but the conversion rate is not good enough.

4. Is it wise to play too many youngsters?

Former Glamour Boys coach Arthur Zwane had a promising start as a head coach in the 2022/23 season.

However, throwing too many youngsters in at the deep end was one of the major reasons for the team being inconsistent.

The Tunisian-Belgian could argue that based on the quality at his disposal, the youngsters he has are the best of the crop and unfortunately, the Naturena-based outfit have to 'pay school fees'.

5. Is there team spirit at Amakhosi?

As reported by Soccer Laduma, there is yet another disciplinary issue facing the squad with Gaston Sirino the latest to enter the bad books.

He is reportedly not on good terms with Nabi regarding his professionalism and there are question marks on how this situation affects the mood and team spirit.

Chiefs have in the past faced disciplinary issues with players, particularly to do with off-the-field issues, and with the Uruguayan's future already reported to be in the balance, after he allegedly faced disciplinary action, it begs the question if all the players are pulling in the same direction, let alone all putting in the same effort.
