From herding cattle to owning a fleet of taxi's here are 10 South African footballers who took the leap of faith by starting a business.

Siphiwe Tshabalala recently expressed the importance of footballers investing the riches they earn within a short-lived football career, citing his failed fish and chips venture as one of his biggest life lessons towards success.

The Kaizer Chiefs legend moved on from his failed franchise endeavour and now runs the Sha-Ye lounge with former teammate Reneilwe Letsholonyane - whilst also earning from property rental.

'Yeye' who co-owns the exclusive lounge also owns the 88 Apparel Q clothing line, which he confirmed has been on hold since the national lockdown was enforced.

While the former Kaizer Chiefs midfielder invested into personalised clothing, Teko Modise followed suit in the same year back in 2015 - whilst still on the books of Mamelodi Sundowns.

Orlando Pirates' Vincent Pule with his Mashonisa brand is another, along with two other former stars of the Soweto giants' included on the list which can be seen in the gallery above.

Wheeling and Dealing

Whilst several footballers opt for flashy cars, Thabiso Semenya and Jackson Mabokgwane invested into acquiring a fleet of mini-bus taxies for the transportation industry.

Mabokgwane's Jacco Tours was launched to operate for tourists but has temporarily been shut down due to the coronavirus crisis - while Semenya's Kgaleke Tours was also on an upward trajectory before the global pandemic.
