Thuso Phala optimistic about SuperSport United's chances Club Africain

Matsatsantsa will be at the Stade Olympique de Rades in the Tunisian capital on Sunday night hoping for an aggregate result that ensures they progress to the final.

The first leg in Tshwane finished 1-1 three weeks ago.

“Obviously we just have to go to Tunisia and score,” Phala tells snl24.com/kickoff.

The 31-year-old winger was the quarter-final hero against ZESCO United, scoring a brace as Matsatsantsa advanced on the away goals rule.

SuperSport undoubtedly have a lot more work to do than their opponents who can still go through without scoring as long as they don’t concede.

“If we score then we will be in the final. We know what to do. It was the same in that quarter-final match against ZESCO United. We went into that away game well aware that we had to score which we did,” he says.

Phala is also not worried about the crowd factor with Club Africain set to have the Red Army standing behind them.

“This game is no different and we know that they will have their fans behind them and we won’t have any since we don’t have a huge following. We are used to going to cup finals in full stadiums and we win those games even when those fans are not behind us. We like playing in big crowds even though they are not behind us. We thrive on such situations. I even remember we went to TP Mazembe and got a result.

“We like playing in full stadiums. We really like that atmosphere as it brings out the best in us. I have a good feeling about going to Tunisia. How we played the first game against them gives me the confidence that we can create chances against. We will go there with the intention of playing to score. We will start the game positive and aim to score that away goal. We know that we can do it,” he explains.

Should SuperSport proceed to the final then it will be their fourth in a row, having reached last year’s Telkom KnockOut decider along with the Nedbank Cup and the recent MTN8.

“When I look at myself there is a possibility that I can make it four cup finals in a row within a space of less than a year, that will be great,” he adds.
