Matsatsantsa will in all likelihood manage a comfortable win over Group D's whipping boys from Gabon at Lucas Moripe on Saturday afternoon.
However, as they currently lie third in their group they need things to go their way in the match between the two sides above them in the form TP Mazembe and Horoya AC who will meet on the same day.
To avoid complications a SuperSport win must be accompanied by either Mazembe or Horoya also winning in Lubumbashi.
If SuperSport win and Mazembe and Horoya draw then all three teams will finish on 10 points meaning the CAF Confederation Cup regulations will have to be applied.
The CAF rules on fixtures and format of the competition state that in the event of a tie between more than two teams at the end of the group matches, the sides will use the criteria below to avoid a repeat of Bafana Bafana’s 2011 dance of shame in Mbombela after they failed to read and understand the rules.
21. In case of a tie between more than two teams at the end of the group matches, the teams will be using the following criteria as per the order listed below :
21.1 The greatest number of points obtained in the matches between the concerned teams;
21.2 The best goal difference in the matches between the concerned teams.
21.3 The greatest number of goals scored in the matches between the concerned teams.
21.4 The greatest number of away goals scored in the matches between the concerned teams.
21.5 If after applying criteria 21.1 to 21.4, two teams are still tied, the criteria from 21.1 to 21.4 are applied to games played between the two teams in question in order to determine the final ranking of the two teams. If this procedure does not determine the standing of the teams, the criteria 21.6 to 21.9 shall be applied in the listed order.
21.6 The greatest goal difference in all group matches.
21.7 The greatest number of goals scored in all group matches.
21.8 The greatest number of away goals scored in all group matches.
21.9 A draw will be conducted by the Interclubs Committee.
Assuming SuperSport win on Saturday and the other game ends in a draw there are a few different outcomes that are dependant on the nature of the tied result between Mazembe and Horoya.
With all three teams having played to a draws in their respective encounters coming into this weekend a draw in Lubumbashi would see them all on four points in their mini-league of three that excludes all results against Mounana.
With goal difference being level the next criteria would be goals scored, a department where SuperSport currently have the edge with four goals against the opposition concerned.
Consequently a 0-0 draw between Mazembe and Horoya would see the South African side progress as group winners.
Should the game in the DRC end in a 1-1 scoreline then SuperSport would finish runners-up to Horoya.
Whilst a 1-1 result would put all the teams level on four goals scored, Horoya - having scored three away goals in the event of the aforementioned result - would be through as Mazembe (1) and SuperSport (2) would have scored less on the road.
Therefore only a score draw of 2-2 or more would see SuperSport exit the competition.
The winner of Group C meets the runner-up of Group D and the top team of Group D squares off with the runner-up of Group C in the quarter-finals with the runners-up starting at home first.
Group C has Al Hilal Al Obayed of Sudan, ZESCO United (Zambia), Recreativo do Libolo from Angola and Smouha of Egypt.
