SuperSport United midfielder Reneilwe Letsholonyane targets CAF Confederation Cup glory

The veteran midfielder finished his first season at Matsatsantsa with the Nedbank Cup title and he is hoping they can go all the way in the CAF Confederation Cup, where they have shown their desire to do well.

SuperSport are in the quarter-finals of the continental club competition after finishing second in Group C, behind defending champions TP Mazembe.

They’ll face Zesco United in the last eight in September and they’d do well to get some information from their neighbours Mamelodi Sundowns, who beat the Zambian side in last year’s Champions League semi-finals.

“We are happy to be where we are in the Confed Cup. At the beginning of the season, we said we want to challenge for every trophy that is available. Now being in the quarter-finals we are hoping to go as far as we can,” Letsholonyane tells snl24.com/kickoff.

“It would mean a lot to me [to win the Confederation Cup] because not every player gets an opportunity to play in the continental competitions. And even if you do, not every club gets to the quarter-finals or even gets to win the tournament. So getting there would make me very happy. Being involved in the team’s success goes in the history books."

With coach Eric Tinkler at the helm, SuperSport will fancy their chances of going all the way. Tinkler was coach at Pirates when the Buccaneers lost out in the 2015 Confederation Cup final to Tunisian club Etoile du Sahel.

“It’s obviously a new challenge. He is a coach who wants to win and I want to win. So I am sure I will learn a lot from him, as much as he will learn from us. I am looking forward to achieving things with him,” says Letsholonyane.
