Simba SC already in South Africa for Kaizer Chiefs match

Kaizer Chiefs' CAF Champions League opponents Simba SC of Tanzania landed in South Africa on Tuesday ahead of their quarter-final meeting on Saturday.

Simba have chosen not to take any chances and have decided to arrive early to acclimatise to the conditions to the wintry conditions in Johannesburg.

They held their first training session in Johannesburg last night as they sought to adjust to the weather conditions that they will play under in Saturday's evening kick-off (18h00) of the first leg tie of the first ever meeting between the two clubs in this competition.

While Chiefs will still have a midweek league commitment to fulfil against Swallows on Wednesday, Simba will be watching with interest.

Simba have not played a match since May 1 against Kagera Sugar, with their derby game against fierce rivals Young Africans postponed at the weekend while the fixture against Coastal Union was also rescheduled.

The Tanzanian heavyweights are the runaway leaders in Ligi Kuu Bara and are in line to win their fourth title in a row.

Not only do Simba have former Orlando Pirates attacker Bernard Morrison in their squad, but their technical team also has two members who have previously worked in South Africa.

Assistant coach Selemani Matola joined SuperSport United at the start of the 2005/06 as a player from Simba.

Matola – who played in midfield – battled through that season starting just 12 games and soon found himself unwanted at Matsatsantsa immediately heading back to his former club Simba.

Their Brazilian goalkeeper coach Milton Nienov worked extensively in South Africa from Free State Stars, Polokwane City, Golden Arrows and Super Eagles.
