CAF tried to use the VAR system during the final between Wydad Casablanca and Esperance last year but the game was still marred by controversy.
The Moroccans had a goal disallowed in the 55th minute and forced the match to be abandoned after they refused to take to the field to continue the match.
Mosimane believes VAR should start from the last four stage of the continental competition.
"For CAF and obviously the final and the semi-finals [they should use VAR]. The semi-finals should have VAR to eliminate the problems that Wydad had against Esperance," says Mosimane.
"It's not good for football. The game must play and finish and obviously VAR should have helped last year. We as Africa, we need to improve and not make the same mistakes as last year."
The Brazilians have been pitted against Egyptian giants Al Ahly in the quarter-finals.
