Orlando Pirates longest unbeaten run in numbers

The Buccaneers travelled to Tunisia to face off with the defending champions, with whom they drew 0-0 at home 10 days prior, fresh off a 1-1 draw with arch-rivals Kaizer Chiefs over the weekend and were bundled over with a 2-0 defeat at the Stade El Menzah.

The defeat was their first in open play since losing 1-0 in an Absa Premiership visit to Bloemfontein Celtic on August 19, barring the penalty shootout losses to Baroka in the Telkom Knockout final in December as well as Black Leopards in the Nedbank Cup last 32 last month.

Their unbeaten run stretched over 2 520 minutes of play across all competitions and equates to 27 consecutive matches, including three sets of extra-time against Leopards, Baroka and AmaZulu.

Pirates previous’ longest run without defeat in open play was 19 matches, which was achieved between 21 December 2005 and 7 May 2006, under then-coach Kosta Papic.

Overall, Sredojevic led his charges to 13 draws and 14 victories, while scoring 46 goals and conceding 22 across those 27 matches.

Meanwhile, with their first defeat having come in the continental club competition, Bucs remain unbeaten in their last 15 league meetings and are still some way to reaching Chiefs' all-time PSL record of 31 league matches without defeat.
