Official: Patrice Carteron signs new Zamalek contract with 20% wage increase

Zamalek SC president Mortada Mansour has extended the contract of head coach Patrice Carteron and rewarded him with a wage increase after securing two trophies.

Carteron arrived at the White Knights as the successor to Milutin Sredojevic, who parted ways with the Egyptian Premier League giants after an indifferent run of form in December.

While Mansour has developed a reputation as a trigger-happy leader with 17 permanent managers over the past six years, Carteron's CAF and Egyptian Super Cup triumphs over Esperance and Al Ahly has appeased the eccentric leader.

With 12 wins from the 20 games in charge, Zamalek's poor domestic form has not counted against the Frenchman, who has now been rewarded with a one-year extension to lead the side into the 2020/21 season.

Vice-chancellor, Ahmed Galal Ibrahim, confirmed to the club's official website that the former Ahly manager received a 20% wage increase on his reported $100 000 (R1.7-million) a month deal.

With Carteron now said to be bumped up to $120 000 (R2.07m) on a monthly basis, it ranks him as the second highest-earning coach in Egypt behind the Red Devils boss Rene Weiler.

The five-time African champions are still in contention for this season's Champions League, with a tie against Raja Casablanca in the semi-finals standing between a final spot against Al Ahly or Wydad Casablanca.
