Mamelodi Sundowns to wipe away Bafana Bafana misery in Sudan

The match will take place at the same venue where Bafana Bafana wobbled on Sunday to come crashing out of the Africa Cup of Nations before the finals.

Sundowns' Bafana Bafana contingent of Lebohang Maboe, Mothobi Mvala, Themba Zwane, Rivaldo Coetzee Thapelo Morena and Mosa Lebusa have remained behind in Sudan awaiting their club teammates to arrive.

The Brazilians have already won Group B with Al Hilal, TP Mazembe and CR Belouizdad all set to fight for second place.

They have scored 10 and conceded two in winning all their four group matches and stand out as the only club that has won all four of their games in all four groups.

Though this is essentially a mere formality fixture, Sundowns will be keen to wipe out the tears of disappointment brought by the national team at the same venue by spoiling the host club's chances of reaching the quarter-finals.

Just like their national team did on Sunday, Al Hilal need a victory from their tie against Sundowns to enhance their qualification chances.

Up to a dozen players from Al Hilal were in the squad that played Bafana on Sunday, amongst them Mohamed Abdel Rahman who scored the second goal.

Another four players from Al Hilal – namely Faris Abdalla, Nasr Eldin El-Shigail, Mohamed Ahmed Saeed and Samawal Merghani – also got minutes in the 2-0 win that secured qualification for the host nation.

For this trip to Al Hilal and the match against Belouizdad on April 9 the result will make no difference for Sundowns, which is why it is expected that non-regulars will be used for these two games.

Denis Onyango, Ricardo Nascimento, Lyle Lakay, Themba Zwane, Peter Shalulile, Maboe and Morena should all be amongst those rested for the South African champions, who have eight games to play across all competitions through the month of April.
