Kaizer Chiefs permutations for CAF Champions League qualification

Kaizer Chiefs have a clear mission to achieve as they go in search of CAF Champions League knockout stage qualification... here's what they need to do.

Chiefs will arrive in Guinea Conakry to face an opponent that has reached the last-eight stage of Africa's elite club competition in two of the last three editions.

Gavin Hunt's side are tied with Horoya on eight points and the battle to determine who takes the second qualification ticket from Group C will be decided at the Stade du 28 Septembre on Saturday (21h00).

Amakhosi are chasing a scoring draw or win but need to avoid a goalless stalemate to secure passage into the CAF Champions League quarter-finals.

Considering that Chiefs played out a goalless draw with the 17-time champions of Guinea in the reverse fixture and both teams are tied on points, it means any scoring draw will favour the visitors according to the CAF rules and regulations, whose order reads as below.

'20. In case of equality of points between two teams at the end of the group matches, the teams will be using the following criteria as per the order listed below: 20.1. The greatest number of points obtained in the matches between the concerned teams. 20.2. The best goal difference in the matches between then the concerned teams. 20.3. The greatest number of scored goals in the away matches between the concerned teams. 20.4. The goal difference from all the matches played in the group. 20.5. The greatest number of goals scored in all group matches.'

This means a goalless draw will be detrimental for Chiefs as they will remain third due to an inferior goal difference in the group, so Itumeleng Khune will be out to keep a clean sheet with Daniel Akpeyi suspended for this match.

For Horoya they will be playing not to concede as that will be enough to take them through at their home ground, where they have not lost a CAF Champions League match since 2014.

It has been 21 matches and seven years since CS Sfaxien downed them by a solitary goal at home. 

However, they have already lost twice and drawn one at home in the eight league matches they have played to date.
