Jose Mourinho's ex-Manchester United assistant heaps praise on Mamelodi Sundowns

Formosinho was appointed at the Sudanese giants last month after Zoran Manojlovic was sacked for losing their opening two CAF Champions League group games.

In his first game in charge in the continental competition, he held Sundowns to a 0-0 draw in Omdurman, which ended The Brazilians' six-game winning streak in the 2020/21 season.

And despite not breaking down his side at home, Formosinho was impressed by the tactical style of the South African champions which he compared to the highest level of football in Europe.

"Your team [Mamelodi Sundowns] play like the big teams in [Europe], your movement, your wingers come inside, your striker comes deep, congratulations, perfect like Tottenham, like Liverpool," Formosinho said.

"Your team plays like the teams in England, believe me, it's true, this movement is just for the big coaches and big teams like [Jurgen] Klopp and Jose Mourinho. You can see how your striker comes back and opens spaces [in behind the defence]."

Sundowns have already qualified for the quarter-final of the Champions League ahead of their final group B fixture against CR Belouizdad at Loftus Versveld Friday afternoon.
