Chiefs were reduced to 10 men before half-time when goalkeeper Daniel Akpeyi was shown a straight red card for handling the ball outside the 18-year area during their 1-0 win over the Moroccan giants.
Amakhosi looked to have had the game under control, dominating possession and chance creation with minimal threat on Akpeyi's goal until the rather unfortunate incident.
However, Hunt defended the Nigerian international's blunder and further deplored the "dishonestly" of Wydad defender Amine Farhane, who contentiously forced a second yellow card for Samir Nurkovic in stoppage time.
"I think [Akpeyi] lost his bearings in terms of where he was on the pitch, sometimes as a goalkeeper you lose where you are," defended Hunt.
"Was the ball going in the goals? I don't think so. Was it a shot at goal? No it wasn't, it was just a ball forward, so... I don't know the actual rule – is it a yellow card? Is it a red card?
"People say it's a red card, so you've got to accept it. But it's a bit harsh that it happened and obviously disappointing that it happened.
"Nurkovic's red card? I don't want to say how the red card came about but it's very diappointing, because I think you've got to be honest in the game, and there was a lot of dishonesty there and that's disappointing."
Nurkovic and Akpeyi will both miss Chiefs' final CAF Champions League Group C encounter against Horoya in Conakry, Guinea next Saturday.
