The record nine-time champions surprisingly finished in second place in Group A to Tanzanian giants Simba SC which means they could either face Sundowns, Wydad Athletic Club, or Esperance de Tunis in the last-eight.
Ahead of the draw that is set to take place at the official CAF headquarters in Cairo on 30 April, Mabrouk, who won the 2013/14 league title says he's hopeful they will face the Brazilians.
"I hope Al Ahly are drawn with Mamelodi Sundowns in the CAF Champions League quarter-finals," he said in local media when asked who he feels the Red Devils should face, as per KingFut.
These thoughts were echoed by Pharaohs icon Gomaa who was elaborated why he believed Mosiamane would also prefer his former club despite their impressive displays in the competition this season.
Speaking to the Hitara Show, the six-time Champions League winner said: "I hope that Al Ahly will avoid crossing the path of Wydad and Esperance de Tunis.
"Unlike many supporters, I prefer to face Mamelodi Sundowns, a team that coach Pitso Mosimane knows well. Wydad is one of the strongest teams of this edition.
"They recruited good players and I place them as one of the favorites to win the competition this season."
