CAF Champions League match report Kaizer Chiefs v Wydad Casablanca 03 April 2021

A new defensive line for the Amakhosi featured Siyabonga Ngezana, Daniel Cardoso, Reeve Frosler and the returning Yagan Sasman.

Chiefs targeted a quick start following the opening ten minutes of the match through Lebogang Manyama, but the latter witnessed the strike fly beyond the intended target.

More opportunities opened up for the Amakhosi just inside midway stage with an acrobatic effort from Bernard Parker going agonisingly beyond the back of the net.

Cardoso had another clear chance for the Amakhosi a little before the final quarter of the half, but it went off target.

Wydad began to open up the Amakhosi and nearly took the lead in the final seven minutes of the half, but the attempt was cleared off the line.

The Amakhosi finished the half with ten players as goalkeeper Daniel Akpeyi saw red for handling outside the area, with Itumeleng Khune entering and Manyama removed.

Chiefs broke the deadlock two minutes from the break when Parker met a sharp delivery from Happy Mashiane to nod beyond their opposite number.

A few promising opportunities followed for the Amakhosi son after going ahead, but Samir Nurkovic in particular couldn't punish the Moroccan heavyweights.

Parker came close to find a second near the final 12 minutes, but had his shot going off target before efforts from Allal and Sofian El Moudane let the Amakhosi off the hook.

Chiefs finished the match with nine players in the final minute after Nurkovic picked up a second yellow card for a second bookable offence, however it didn't matter as it finished 1-0.

This result see the Amakhosi in third spot and on eight points in Group C, with a game to spare as a spot for the knockout stages heats up.

Chiefs: Akpeyi, Frosler, Sasman, Cardoso, Ngezana, Blom, Ngcobo, Mashiane, Manyama, Parker, Nurkovic.

Subs: Khune, Mphahlele, Baccus, Kambole, Castro, Katsande, Billiat
