Al Ahly confirm the exit of club legend Sherif Ekramy in dramatic squad revamp

Al Ahly have confirmed the exit of a third club legend as an exciting new dawn beckons under the management on Rene Weiler.

With Egypt legend Ahmed Fathi confirming his move to domestic rivals Pyramids and club captain Hossam Ashour also set to be released, long-serving goalkeeper Sherif Ekramy has now been confirmed as part of the exodus.

The legendary trio has won a combined total of 73 major titles between them, with 34-year-old Ashour, an academy graduate, contributing 36 of those triumphs.

After 17 seasons in the first-team, Ashour, the most decorated player in the club's history will not be offered a new contract at the end of the Egyptian Premier League season.

While Ekramy, who has been displaced in the first-team by Pharoes keeper Mohamed El Shenaway, is also set for a move to Pyramids for the 2020/21 campaign.

Fathi revealed in a long emotional statement that his motives for his exit is due to his desire to remain a first-team footballer and to earn a place in the national team for the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.
