The senior women's national team have already made history when they stepped out onto the Stade Oceane Stadium on Saturday, marking their maiden appearance at a Women's World Cup.

Motaung has since expressed passionate support for coach Desiree Ellis and her troops and gave her impression of the team's road to France.

"This is a very important tournament, and for South Africa to be represented at this big stage for the first time is a huge milestone that ought to be celebrated," Motaung told her club's website.

"They have done us proud by qualifying for this showpiece and deserve all the support they can get from all of us.

"I have followed Banyana Banyana through the qualifiers and they have shown they have all that it takes to launch a challenge at the World Cup stage.

"Reaching the final and only losing to Nigeria on penalties in 2018 AFCON was a good indicator of the rising level of women's football in South Africa.

"Coach Desiree Ellis has done wonders with the team – she's done some sterling work. I wish her and the team success in this historical football moment."

Motaung further believes South Africa have what it takes to win their remaining matches and advance to the finals on July 6, before returning home with the cup.

"I have faith in their capabilities to win their matches and progress to the final stages of the tournament," she added.

"It won't be easy, but with the kind of positive attitude and spirit they've demonstrated, I am sure they will return with the trophy. Good luck to the ladies!"
