They've served Banyana Banyana for over 10 years and these over 30s will finally get to know what it's like to play at a FIFA Women's World Cup before calling time on their careers.
Captain Janine van Wyk, defender Noko Matlou and midfielder Mamello Makhabane have served the senior women's national team with aplomb, helping the team to Olympic qualification on two occasions as well as the World Cup, a first for Banyana in their history.
Matlou, the oldest player in the team at age 33, is arguably one of the greatest players to have played the game. She became the first South African to win the African Women's Player of the Year award and has since been joined by the current big star Thembi Kgatlana. She's one of two players who have made over 150 appearances for the senior national team.
A year younger than Matlou, Van Wyk made her debut in 2005 during the African Women's Championship. The solid defender, who has played at two Olympic games, made her 150 appearance in September 2018.
Mamello Makhabane, who has been affected by injuries over the years, made her debut for Banyana in 2005. The 31-year-old missed out on the 2012 Olympics due to injury, but got the opportunity to play when the team participated in Rio in 2016.
Nothando Vilakazi made her debut in 2007 against Ghana and the 30-year-old, who turns 31 in October, has made the left back position her own over the years. She's one of the hardest working players in the team and her commitment on the pitch can never be doubted, featuring at both the 2012 and 2016 Olympics.
Should any of these players retire after the World Cup, their one regret would probably be the their failure to help Banyana win the African Women's Championship. But, for now, they will get to enjoy the experience of playing against some of the biggest countries at the World Cup.
