Banyana Banyana star Nothando Vilakazi is satisfied with how the team has prepared ahead of their opening FIFA Women's World Cup Group B match against Spain this evening.
South Africa will also have China and Germany as opponents in their group in France.
The Middelburg-born 30-year-old defender, who recently signed for Lithuanian side Gintra Universistas, has played for the national team for more than 10 years and notched up more than 100 caps.
Banyana have played the Netherlands, Sweden (twice), Jamaica, USA and Norway to prepare for the World Cup. They also participated in the Cyprus Women's Cup.
"In football everything is possible. We are well prepared. China, we played them and we watched their games when they played other teams," Vilakazi says.
With Banyana being the shortest team at the tournament, Vilakazi says as a team they are not worried about the challenge of defending set-pieces as recent friendlies provided them with some insight on what to expect when they compete at the World Cup for the first time.
"We played the likes of USA, Brazil before and we were able to compete with them, so I don't think that would be a problem. I think now we are more mature than before and we have more experienced players in the team," she explained.
"With the experience we have, we will do well and we will be able to compete with the best. We talk about playing every match as if it is our last match. We want to reach the last 16 and after that we will take every match as it comes. But playing the final is everyone's dream."
