Banyana Banyana coach Desiree Ellis not pleased with the way they conceded "poor" goal against Norway

Banyana Banyana coach Desiree Ellis admitted that her side's performance in defence was poor after they were hammered by Norway less than a week before the FIFA World Cup kicks offs.

Banyana were trounced 7-2 by the Europeans in Amiens, France, on Sunday night, which certainly is not good for the confidence going into a major competition such as the World Cup.

Ellis, who made 11 changes from the team which played against the USA in California in May, pointed out that their warm-up before the game had to be rushed due to the fact that their trip from the hotel to the stadium was longer than expected, due to traffic.

"Not a good day at the office, but there were a few circumstances leading up to that. A trip that should have taken one-and-a-half hours [to the stadium] to way more than that. We left here [the hotel] at 17h00 and got there at 20h45, the game started at 21h15, so everything was rushed. We had short warming, but yet we could have done better. Some of the goals we conceded were really poor," Ellis said.

"We spoke about who the danger players are going to be, we did not pick them up. We were very loose at times in picking up players at times. On the plus side we scored two really good goals and we had a couple of others opportunities as well, but we still need to look at ourselves."

Banyana are in Group B with Spain, Germany and China PR.
