Banyana Banyana coach Desiree Ellis has named Refiloe Jane captain for the Cosafa Cup

Banyana are in Group C with Lesotho, Namibia and Botswana. They begin their campaign with a match against Lesotho on Thursday at Luveve Stadium.

Jane, who stands in for the absent Janine van Wyk, has been a key player for Banyana for a number of years now and will be looking to use her experience to guide the national team to glory in Zimbabwe.

She says Banyana’s preparations for the competition are on track as she thanked SAFA and sponsors Sasol for helping the team get ready.

“Since we started our camp everything has been on track. We have been working really hard as a team and we would like to thank SAFA and Sasol for helping with the camps and preparations because we know that when we go to tournaments it’s not easy, hence we need to prepare well,” she said.

With some key players not available to take part in the competition, Jane believes the new players will bring good competition for places in the team.

“We have new players and some are young players, combined with the old players. We know that no one is guaranteed a spot in the team, hence when you get selected you need to work extra hard. This is a new beginning because everyone will want to make a better start for themselves going forward.”
