'This is possible only in Africa' - Hugo Broos fumes at CAF fixture schedule

Bafana Bafana head coach Hugo Broos has hit out at CAF in what he described as handing Morocco a clear advantage in the Group K Afcon qualifying schedule.

With Zimbabwe still banned from international football, only three teams remain in Group K with leaders Morocco having already qualified after CAF approved that Liberia play their home match against the Atlas Lions in the backyard of the North Africans.

This has incensed Broos whose Bafana must now battle it out with Liberia for the second qualifying spot in the group.

"The fact that from the beginning we are only three teams is rubbish," explodes Broos in response to a question from this publication about the anxiety created by the fixture schedule.

"This is not a normal qualification.

"You see what happened, Morocco has already qualified after playing just two games and CAF allowed them to play [their away game against Liberia] in Morocco.

"This is all possible [only] in Africa.

"This is unbelievable.

"It is okay when Liberia doesn't have a stadium that conforms to FIFA rules then you have to play in another country but not in Morocco because they are with you in the group but here CAF says 'okay, no problem'.

"So, they have already qualified after two games.

"This is not normal.

"I knew from the beginning that maybe those two games against Liberia should be decisive to determine if we are qualify or not.

"We have the opportunity to do it in two games.

"Why shouldn't we do it?

"And I know it is easier to say it than to do it, but I believe in this team, and I see qualities that I didn't see one year ago.

"So, we are a better team now but okay, we have to play the game and if we have the level that we can reach then we have to qualify, I'm sure of it.

"But it depends on us. It depends on our performance tomorrow and certainly next week in Monrovia it will be special on a synthetic pitch and a fully packed stadium, but we have to try and win tomorrow (today)," says Broos.

Bafana play the reverse leg at the Samuel Kanyon Doe Sports Complex on Tuesday and will secure qualification with wins in both games.
