Palacios: 'Barker deserves a statue'

Former tactician Augusto Palacios says the late Bafana Bafana head coach Clive Barker deserves a statue after his many achievements in South African football.

Barker guided Bafana Bafana to their only Africa Cup of Nations triumph in 1996 to be crowned champions of Africa.

"I think he deserves a statue or a stadium to be named after him, as he is the only coach who lifted the AFCON and qualified for the World Cup," Palacios tells KickOff.

"This man deserves more than any coach. He achieved what many other coaches never achieved.

"The only thing I don't like in South Africa is we don't recognise a person when he is alive.

"You can't recognise him when he is dead, and you give to the wife or his children this honour this plate this trophy, no.

"For me, this is one thing that needs to change in South Africa."
