Mashego: 'We were leading 2-0 and the South African mentality came back'

Former striker Katlego Mashego has warned Bafana Bafana against any complacency ahead of a crucial Afcon qualifier against Liberia as Hugo Broos' side aim to resuscitate their qualifying hopes.

Broos' side will be aiming to take control of their Group K fate with a win in Monrovia in a tricky away fixture after being held to a shock 2-2 at Orlando Stadium last Friday.

Mashego has urged Bafana to show composure and not to chase the result.

"I think they should be a little bit cautious in their approach for the fact that they are playing away, and they are playing against the same team that gave them problems the last time," Mashego tells KickOff.

"So, they shouldn't go all out and try to win the game, but they should be cautious.

"They are playing against a good team; I mean a team that showed what they are capable of by managing to come back from two goals down.

"They should try to be cautious but at the same time have a plan in mind to win the game.

"The coach should send that message and that should be written in bold letters in the changing room.

"But they need to be cautious because conditions can be difficult when you are playing away.

"The thing is Liberia also believes they can win this game, and I believe they also want to qualify.

"We can win if we score two against them, they are a team that gives away chances.

"We were leading 2-0, and the South African mentality came back we started to play for the sake of playing.

"They were not open at the back, we should have scored two more goals.

"That way we could avoid what happened at the back."
