The Black Stars are aiming to clinch their second successive win, in as many games to solidify their lead in Group G of the 2022 World Cup qualifying campaign.
Akonnor's side is without the services of UK-based Jordan Ayew, Jeffrey Schlupp, Andy Yadom, Baba Rahman and Daniel Amartey due to Covid-19 travel restrictions
"It is a match that we are taking seriously because when we played Ethiopia there were certain things we needed to do, and we have learnt from that," Akonnor said.
"I believe that come Monday we will improve, and we are looking forward to having a good match. We are looking forward to getting three points and that is why we are here."
Despite harsh criticism after their narrow win over Ethiopia, Akonnor insists that results are the most important factor for his side to clinch qualification.
"What is important is that we have to be efficient. Against Ethiopia, we didn't excite you guys, but we were efficient because we won," Akonnor added.
"As we stand now, we are on top and are not going to allow the influence of whoever is putting pressure to disturb us. We are focused and we are here, and we have seen South Africa against Zimbabwe and we have a strategy that we believe will work. We believe that even if they change the style of play, we will find a way to leave with three points.
"With respect to the new coach (Broos) he is very experienced and has done it and we have all seen it. But then we are in a different situation, and it is unfortunate my friend (Molefi Ntseki) lost his job because they didn't qualify but we are coming here with a different mentality.
"When we came here (last time) there were a lot of guys who were not in the squad and this time we have a bit of an improvement and even though we have lost six key players we will manage it and we are giving other guys a chance to play, and I believe that they are ready and hungry.
"This is going to be a battle that we must be clever about in carrying the day for us. Football has evolved and it is about time people respect opponents. We are here because we respect South Africa and tomorrow will be a tough match and with all the respect we believe in our capacity."
Kick-off is at 18:00.
