It is believed representatives from both Soweto giants Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates have made exploratory enquiries on Ethiopian forward Abubeker Nassir following his impressive displays against Bafana Bafana.
Nassir – wearing jersey number 10 – featured in the double-header qualifiers against Bafana with his impressive outings attracting interest from numerous teams.
The 21-year-old is currently on the books of Ethiopian side Coffee SC for who he smashed 29 goals last season on his way to being crowned the league's top goalscorer, Best Young Player and the Most Valuable Player.
Enquiries have not been limited to Chiefs and Pirates but also include other local clubs having enquired about Nassir along with teammates Amanuel Gebremichael and Surafel Dagnachew.
The attacker, however, is also being touted for a possible move to North Africa while efforts have also been made to seal a move to Europe.
Last week countryman Fikru Teferra told this website that he feels Nassir would prove will crack it at both Chiefs and Pirates based on what he has seen of him.
"I played for Pirates, so I know what those two clubs need. When you play for those two clubs you need to keep your application at the top by always working hard so that people appreciate you even when you are not scoring.
"With him, the advantage is that he can score the goals. He broke the scoring record here last season so that should tell you what he can do. The boy can score all types of goals and I feel he can fit properly at Chiefs. He is a flexible player who is quick and can score goals," said Fikru who was at Pirates in the 2006/07 season."
