Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos reveals why Zimbabwe World Cup qualifier poses risk

The Warriors host Broos' side on Friday at the National Sports Stadium in Harare in a "Battle of Limpopo" in what will also be the Belgian's first match in charge.

"I am surprised by the pitch because I saw a few of the games of Zimbabwe from the past and the pitch was very bad but now it is fantastic. I am happy about that," Broos said.

Zimbabwe will go into the match with as many as 13 players unavailable due to strict UK Covid-19 travel restrictions.

The long list of players includes Marvelous Nakamba, Teenage Hadebe, Tendayi Darikwa, Jordan Zemura, Brendan Galloway, Ovidy Karuru and Jimmy Dzingai among others.

"A few weeks ago when we started preparing this team for the game against Zimbabwe, we knew that it would be a very tough game," Broos added.

"Today it is not only tough but also risky. Why risky? You know as I know that now Zimbabwe has problems with the release of players and there are some important players who are not there so it is a risk that we could underestimate our opponents tomorrow.

"But we will not do that because even if Zimbabwe doesn't have the players expected the players that will play tomorrow will prove to their coach that they are good enough to be in the squad.

"So, it will be for us a very tough game, but I hope that we can have a good result because this is the start of the qualifiers and if you can have a good start, it is always good.

"We will try to win that game tomorrow just like my colleague on the other side. I am confident because we worked well with the squad this week and tomorrow, we will go for a victory.

The 2017 Afcon winner adds that he will be buoyed by his experience working with the Cameroonian national team.

"For me, I have had the experience of African football with Cameroon so this for me is an advantage.

Secondly, I have already worked one week with my team but there has been a lot of research in the last months, so I know the players quite well though there are still some players that I don't know.

"But again, with the squad that we have here, we can have a good result tomorrow. What I know about South Africa just like Zimbabwe with modern technology is that you can see what you want on the internet so from that side I am very informed about our opponents tomorrow.

Kick-off is at 15:00.
