Bafana Bafana captain Ronwen Williams excited to resume Zimbawe rivalry

South Africa get their Group G World Cup qualifying campaign underway against the Warriors at the Zimbabwe National Sports Stadium in Harare.

Williams - named as new Bafana captain on Monday - revealed that Friday's encounter has extra meaning as he shares a dressing room with many Zimbabwe internationals at club side SuperSport United.

"We are looking forward to the game and it has been a long time coming," Williams said. We couldn't wait for this once the draw came out.

"We were all excited and there was a lot of talk back home because we know the rivalry between the two countries and obviously, I play with a lot of Zim players at my club.

"So, we are looking forward to the game and it is going to be a tough one. We know each other quite well because a lot of the Zim players are based in the PSL.

"It is going to be a tough one but one that we are looking forward to. We want to start on a positive note."

Williams added that there will be little between the two sides with both teams familiar with the other.

Washington Arubi, Divine Lunga, Bhasera, Kevin Moyo, Marshall Munetsi, Tafadzwa Rusike, Mahachi, Khama Billiat, Farai Madhananga, Knowledge Musona and Terrence Dzukamanja are all faces that Williams has previously faced at club level.

"This is a different ball game and obviously it is good that we know the opponents that we are playing against. Like the coach said, today it is an open book because you can get anything online, and it is good that we know who we are playing against and what we are coming up against.

"It is just for us to focus on ourselves. We have had a good game-plan in the week, and we want to go out there and play to the best of our abilities."

Kick-off is at 15:00.
