Komphela is hoping when they face Masandawana the gods will be on their side, much like it seems they were when they faced a coincidental series of fixtures against previous opponents.
Arrows beat Sundowns 3-2 at a rain-soaked Sugar Ray Xulu Stadium a week and a half ago and will be looking to do it again at the same venue this weekend.
"We went through Polokwane City twice and we were at home we came through. We went to SuperSport [United] twice, we came through," Komphela said.
"We just went to Mamelodi Sundowns supposed to be twice, the first one we came through, so we are just hoping the second one we come through as well."
Komphela understands that Sundowns are blessed with an array of talent but believes if they keep the same work ethic they had when they beat them in the league, they will come out on top.
"How can you come through that? One, they wouldn't want to lose to Golden Arrows twice, that's a big test and I'm sure some of the players they didn't have, there's quite a lot of their first-team players or regulars previously that were not there," he explained.
"Your Themba [Zwane] was not there, [Gaston] Sirino was not there, Hlompho [Kekana] was not there. But again even without Zwane, Sirino, Kekana and whoever there is quality they have there.
"You can't question the quality from [Thapelo] Morena, you can't question [Lyle] Lakay, you can't question [Sibusiso] Vilakazi.
"But I thought the game plan, how these people plan their things work well. Are they going to bring the same when we come across them? A leopard never changes its spot, it will remain a leopard, so are we going to apply the same? The work ethic has to still remain the same."
Komphela tried to make sure he managed his players during the international break to ensure they did not become too comfortable.
"Nice is dangerous in football, nice is comfort and comfort makes you complacent," he warned.
"Complacency, you become mediocre. The minute you are comfortable you become complacent and mediocre, so we don't want 'nice' in our lives.
"We have to thrive through discomfort because the only way you can keep going forward is when you are uncomfortable. When you are comfortable, you rest."
