Should Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates fans sit together at the Soweto Derby?

In those days by allowing the two sets of fans to sit together you would have easily started a World War lll. But what was good about it though is that it intensified the rivalry.

Who can forget the day when Bucs fans burned the FNB Stadium seats after Kaizer Chiefs were awarded a penalty?

But at the same time sitting separately made it easier for players to run to their team's supporters everytime they scored a goal to celebrate with them. Should that culture be brought back in our football?

These days the rivalry between the two clubs is one of the friendlies in the world, which is what makes it special. And sitting together makes it easy for family and friends to enjoy the game together.

But well known Pirates fan Phillip Jwarha says he prefers the opposite as it's not safe to sit next to your enemy.

"You see since Pirates and Chiefs were sponsored by Vodacom and Black Label, right now we are always sitting as a mix," Jwarha tells snl24.com/kickoff.

"We do sit together but somewhere somehow there are still those fans who don't understand what is the meaning of it. Well it looks nice when we are sitting together but the problem starts when it leaves people with scars, when the other tesm scores. It's really difficult to stand up and celebrate amongst Orlando Pirates supporters if you are two Kaizer Chiefs supporters mixing with ten Pirates supporters. Football is about fun we should all accept win or lose.

"But the results sometimes other supporters do not take it as a fun they take it serious. If their team is losing they don't want anyone near them, even when you try to look at him, he will say "Why you laughing for me?". But it's very nice together because sometimes we come to the Stadium as a family. It's good but it's bad when one of the teams is winning. But to sit down and watch the ball it's very nice. I think sitting separately it's the best way. Separating the fans is right because when we sit together, at the end of the day some gets hurt. Safe is very important."

But according to Amakhosi prominent supporter Saddam Maake, sitting together has changed the Soweto derby for the better.

"I'm with those who says supporters need to sit together. They must not sit like it used to be in the past." Maake says.

"You know why? If you wore the gold Chiefs colours and sat in the side of Pirates by mistake they used to beat you. One day I went to the Pirates section by mistake and they threw a glass full of beer at me. That's why I'm saying let's unite and become one. The younger generation of supporters they are very lucky, people used to die. People used to leave before the game was even finished to avoid getting hurt.

"Against Sundowns let's sit separate, but against Pirates let's sit together because that brings the peace. These days Pirates and Chiefs fans we travel in a same taxi to the Stadium. Another thing, please guys talk to Pitso Mosimane on Sunday he said, 'I wonder if Pirates supporters will allow this on Saturday?'. You see this guy is giving people ideas now? Pitso must be controlled. He must not seek attention with useless things."
