Pirates coach Rhulani Mokwena brought right-back Mthokozisi Dube into the starting line-up during the league match against Highlands Park, a clear indication that his other eye was on the Derby. Dube has been out of action since pre-season due to a shoulder injury.
Innocent Maela also made his return to the Bucs XI against the Lions of the North after missing the past two games, which shows that Mokwena is expected to go with the tried and tested in defence.
Bucs' midfield selection has not been consistent this season but Motshwari has returned from injury to bring stability and would give Musa Nyatana the ability to attack, with Thembinkosi Lorch given the role to operate both on the flanks and behind the striker depending on how Pirates switch into various formations during the game.
With Reeve Frosler missing the Soweto Derby due to injury, Pirates could bring in a hard-running winger with pace in Augustine Mulenga to put pressure on youngster Njabulo Blom.
Tshegofatso Mabasa is likely to remains the point of reference in Pirates' strike force up front assisted by Justin Shonga.
