Kaizer Chiefs' 10-match unbeaten record on the line

Chiefs will be taking the Maritzburg further North to Mbombela Stadium for their 'home' semi-final clash on Sunday afternoon (15h00) as they look to maintain their spotless record over the Team of Choice since 2015.

It has been over four years, and 10 matches across all competitions – of which eight have ended in victory and just two in draws, since Amakhosi last tasted defeat against the Kwa-Zulu Natal outfit.

The odds are thus heavily stacked in The Glamour Boys' favour for this crucial encounter, but defender Daniel Cardoso is well aware that all non-Chiefs supporters are in favour of an upset come the final whistle out in Nelspruit.

"I was saying yesterday, when it comes to Sunday, we're not just playing against Maritzburg; we're playing against the whole of the PSL, because I'm sure every team is going to be wanting Maritzburg to win," said Cardoso.

"So, it's going to be a tough encounter and we can't take our foot off the pedal. We've been in a good space, but Maritzburg are a good side with very good players.

"They've got guys like Siyanda Xulu, Jeremy Brockie, Daylon Claasen – all very high-profile players, so it's not going to be an easy game but, if we keep doing what we've been doing, I think we'll go into the final."

The 31-year-old further emphasised their desire to end their four-and-a-half-year trophy drought and believes a continuation of their recent form, which has seen them lose just one of their 13 matches this season, is sure to catapult them towards bringing an end thereto.

"We're one step away from the final, and we want to be in the final, so it's another chance to win silverware, which is something we haven't brought to the club for quite some time," he acknowledged.

"I think we're in a positive mood and you can see the football we've been playing has been winning us games; we've only lost one game so far, so hopefully we can continue that run."
