Arsenal secure North London derby bragging rights

Arsenal claimed the bragging rights in the North London derby with a come-from-behind 2-1 win over Tottenham Hotspur on Wednesday night.

Raheem Sterling, Thomas Partey, Declan Rice and Leandro Trossard were all brought back to the starting line-up after losing to Manchester United in the FA Cup over the weekend.

It was all Arsenal in the opening stages of the first half as they were camped in the Spurs half, but their rivals did well to thwart every attack, especially from the corners.

All that dominance counted for nothing as Spurs broke the deadlock  on 24 minutes when Son Heung-min's volley on the edge of the box sailed into the back of the net via a deflection.

Spurs were unable to keep Arsenal out for too long as the hosts restored parity five minutes before the halftime break via the head of Gabriel Magalhães, who takes his tally to four league goals this season.

Arsenal were able to take the lead on the stroke of halftime as Trossard got his name on the score-sheet with a lovely strike from the left side of the 18-yard area.

The visitors came out for the second period with a double change as James Maddison and Brennan Johnson replaced Yves Bissouma and Pape Sarr.

With Spurs pushing for the equaliser, the Gunners nearly caught their opponents on the break with 20 minutes to go but the visitors had goalkeeper Antonin Kinsky to thank for keeping out Rice's powerful strike from the edge of the box.

There would be no late show for the visitors at the Emirate Stadium, with Pedro Porro seeing his strike cannon off the upright with Raya beaten as the Mikel Arteta's charges moved four points behind league leaders Liverpool.
