AS FAR suffer setback ahead of Downs CAFCL clash

Mamelodi Sundowns' place in the next round of the CAF Champions League will be on the line when they face AS FAR, who reportedly face a setback that could affect the encounter.

The two side are set to go head to head in the final matchday of the group stages, and while the Moroccan outfit have already qualified for the knockout rounds, Downs still have to secure their spot.

The Brazilians occupy second place in Group B, with Raja Club Athletic just three points behind them. As such, the South African side need just one point from their clash, which is scheduled to take place on Sunday evening.

In their endeavours to do so, the PSL outfit may have been given a slight advantage, as reports suggest that the Botola Pro 1 side's manager, Hubert Velud, could miss out on the encounter.

This comes after the French tactician underwent a successful surgery on Tuesday morning after suffering a rupture in his Achilles tendon, according to 365Scores

It has been suggested that as a result of going for surgery, Velud will not be on the sidelines when his team go up against Masandawana at the Loftus Versfeld Stadium.

Instead, it is believed that the team will be led by his assistant Jamil Benouahi as the Moroccan side look to finish the group stage on top of the table.

The two sides last met on matchday two in December last year, and the match ended with the spoils being shared at 1-1.
