Adama Traore chooses Spain over Mali

The Spain-born winger, who is of Malian descent, has been at the centre of a tug of war between the two nations for more than a year, during which he has frequently been called up by both national team camps.

Traore was first called up to the Spain squad in 2019 but had to withdraw due to injury, after which he was pictured in a Mali jersey in January the following year, prompting speculation that he would represent the African nation.

That decision was put on hold by the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic in March, which, ironically, later saw him withdraw from the Spain squad again in August after he tested positive for COVID-19.

However, the Wolverhampton Wanderers star now appears to have made a decision on his future after being pictured arriving for duty with the Spain squad on Monday, ahead of their fixtures against Portugal, Switzerland and Ukraine later this month.
