Zimbabwe international defender Hardlife Zvirekwi loses arm in horrific accident

Zvirekwi, 30, reportedly lost control of his car on Monday in the nations capital city, Harare and after injuring his hand badly, the decision was taken to amputate half of his left arm.

The news has sent shockwaves through the Sothern African nation over the influential defender who captained The Warriors and was an integral part of the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations squad.

Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) boss Philip Chiyangwa told The Herald that Zvirekwi insists he won't give up playing football for club or country despite the huge setback and he has taken heart from the fact that there have been former amputees playing professional football.

"Someone had told me that he had been amputated by the shoulder and I had been more worried but I am sure he is going to play again," Chiyangwa said.

"He has been captain of a big team and at one time you have been a successful captain of the national team and so I came here to say I will give him support."

"We will as ZIFA make some contribution to his family so that the family doesn't starve. We know that he will be out of a job for some time."
