Arsenal star 'agrees deal' to join Mokwana's CWC opponents

A current Arsenal star is reported to have agreed a deal with one of the teams set to face Elias Mokwana’s Esperance de Tunis at the upcoming 2025 FIFA Club World Cup.

Next month, the latest edition of the Club World Cup will kick off in the United States, with the tournament scheduled to run from 14 June to 14 July.

Among the 32 teams taking part will be Esperance, one of four African sides participating in the global showpiece.

The Tunisian giants, who signed Mokwana from Sekhukhune United at the start of the season, have been drawn in Group D alongside Chelsea, Flamengo, and Club León—although the latter has been disqualified and is yet to be replaced.

Nevertheless, Flamengo are said to have secured a key signing ahead of the tournament, with the imminent acquisition of an Arsenal player.

According to Globo, Flamengo have signed a pre-contract agreement with Italian midfielder Jorginho, who will become a free agent next month.

The outlet claims the playmaker will sign a three-year deal with Flamengo, and the 33-year-old is expected to be unveiled before the Club World Cup begins.

Jorginho has been with Arsenal since January 2023, having joined the Gunners from Chelsea for a fee of €11.3 million (R233 million).

Interestingly, Flamengo’s first match at the Club World Cup will be against Esperance.
