Cardoso’s new broom sweeping all and sundry

Mamelodi Sundowns' decision to bring in Miguel Cardoso is having titanic effects in the Betway Premiership with the Portuguese now one step away from sweeping past all.

Cardoso has been at Sundowns since December and has taken charge of a dozen league games.

Through those 12 matches, he has won all but one to accumulate 33 out of the 36 points which have been on offer.

This gives Cardoso a two thirds contribution of the 54 points which the champions have in the bag after 20 games.

The tally of 54 points is the most any team has ever had after 20 games throughout the PSL years.

Of interest is that minus the opening eight league games overseen by Manqoba Mngqithi, Cardoso's contribution of 33 points would have Sundowns in second and only three points behind Orlando Pirates right now.

Pirates have 36 points in the bag.

The Buccaneers have 12 wins all season in the league, while Cardoso has already moved to 11 since he took over.

Goals have rained with 29 scored under the former Esperance gaffer and only seven conceded.

If the Tshwane giants maintain their incredible points accumulation pace and lose only once in the last 10 league games, then Cardoso will lift the title with points gathered under him despite arriving eight games into the season.

With the pace at which the champions are moving, they will surpass the record of 73 points for a 16-team league, which they set last season.

They need 20 points from the 30 left to play to achieve that.

It all looks way too easy for Sundowns as they move towards their eighth consecutive league title, which Cardoso will need only four months to wrap up.

Chippa United – yet to play Sundowns this season in the league – remains the only club yet to be beaten by Sundowns.

While Cardoso still has the Nedbank Cup to play for, what is priority is winning the CAF Champions League.
