CT City move top despite Casric late show

Cape Town City were unable to claim their frist win in the PSL Promotion play-off after playing to a 1-1 draw against Casric Stars on Wednesday afternoon.

Thabo Nodada, Kayden Francis, Thamsanqa Mkhize and Lorenzo Gordinho returned to the City starting line-up following the weekend's draw against Orbit College.

The visitors endured a tough opening minute and needed a strong first-time save from goalkeeper Darren Keet to thwart Decide Chauke from inside the area.

Keet came good again in less than a minute when he rushed out of his area to court another close-range attempt from the area by Chauke.

City weathered the storm and hit the front midway in the first half when Prins Tijueza sneaked in the centre of the defence and rifled into the top-corner.

The home team started pushing for a quick response and came close through a rasping shot from way out by Chauke, but Keet managed to get behind it.

In the second half, the Citizens seeked to add to their advantage courtesy of Jaedin Rhodes, Siphamandla Dondolo, and Haashim Domingo but they were unable to find the back of the net.

Joseph Mthombeni’s remained confident particularly in the forward ventures as Lebohang Lesako and Chauke continued to unsettle the opposing defence.

City looked to take full control of proceedings around the closing exchanges and made a triple substitution in Gabriel Amato, Cee-Jay Bezuidenhout and Shakeel April.

The host continued to pose problems a little later as Chauke got another look in from the cleverest of angles but saw his effort cleared off the line.

The crack came in the final minute of stoppage time as the host levelled when Siphamandla Mlilo converted from the penalty spot following a foul in the area, denying City maximum points.
