Mokoena: Pirates players are tired

Former Orlando Pirates midfielder Naughty Mokoena has attributed the team's recent lackluster performances to fatigue.

On Wednesday, the Pirates managed to secure a narrow 1-0 victory against Chippa United in Gqeberha, but not every fan was left impressed.

Mokoena fears that the current congested fixture schedule might negatively impact the emerging talent in every Betway Premiership club.

"Yes, they won last night, but I'm not that impressed," Mokoena tells KickOff

"There is something not quite right in that Pirates team. The spirit seems a bit down. It feels like they are really pushing themselves, but I believe it primarily stems from fatigue.

"Playing too many games leads to fatigue, and even your mind can get tired. But sometimes, you just have to push through.

"The trips across Africa can be taxing. Back-to-back flights can take a toll on the body.

"You need a lot of players to compete in the CAF Competitions. Take guys like Deon Hotto, for example. He is participating in all the matches and playing full games. If players do not get enough rest, it could harm not only them but also the new youngsters in the PSL.

"Just imagine how his body might be feeling right now Hotto."

Wednesday's win means the Buccaneers now trail log leaders Mamelodi Sundowns by only 16 points, but they have played four games less.
