Triple starting XI power with extras at Downs

Mamelodi Sundowns' luxury of options has been widened with the confirmation of Lebogang Mothiba's signing.

Mothiba has been at the club since the beginning of the year but, having last played competitive football at French club Strasbourg in December 2023, there have been issues with his fitness, which have delayed the completion of his signing.

The 29-year-old gives Miguel Cardoso the comforts of three starting XIs capable of competing on any day with the club still having interests in the Betway Premiership, Nedbank Cup, CAF Champions League, and FIFA Club World Cup.

Sundowns have 10 games to play in the league, could get to three and six if they get to the finals of the Nedbank and Champions League respectively.

The Club World Cup guarantees at least three matches in the group stage.

In no order or preference and provided all players currently at the club are fit and available, one team could have Ronwen Williams, Khuliso Mudau, Grant Kekana, Lucas Suarez, Aubrey Mothiba, Teboho Mokoena, Marcelo Allende, Themba Zwane, Jayden Adams, Lucas Ribeiro, and Peter Shalulile.

Another team will have Denis Onyango, Zuko Mdunyelwa, Malibongwe Khoza, Mosa Lebusa, Divine Lunga, Bathusi Aubaas, Sphelele Mkhulise, Tashreeq Mathews, Neo Maema, Iqraam Rayners, and Lebogang Mothiba.

The other option would be Jody February, Thapelo Morena, Mothobi Mvala, Keanu Cupido, Asekho Tiwani, Rivaldo Coetzee, Kobamelo Kodisang, Kutlwano Letlhaku, Matias Esquivel, Thapelo Maseko, and Arthur Sales.

There would still be the options of fitting in Kegan Johannes, Siyabonga Mabena, and Terrence Mashego in any of those teams, supported by the goalkeeping pair of Sanele Tshabalala and Reyaad Pieterse.
