Coppa Italia match report Bologna v Juventus 12 January 2019

Massimiliano Allegri made numerous changes in this Cup tie, as he rested the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo, Paulo Dybala, Blaise Matuidi and Alex Sandro.

Bianconeri have won the Coppa Italia for the last four seasons in succession and were heavy favorites getting into the clash, while Filippo Inzaghi’s men were looking to pull off a major upset to galvanise their disappointing first-round league campaign.

Federico Bernardeschi fired the visitors ahead in the ninth minute with a strike inside the box after a mix-up inside the box following a corner.

Leonardo Bonucci came close to doubling the lead for the Old Lady on the half-hour mark with a powerful header that was smothered by goalkeeper Angelo da Costa.

An the other end, Bologna were hardly troubling shot-stopper Wojciech Szczesny towards the close of the first stanza as Juve went into the break with a narrow lead.

Teenage forward Moise Kean made it 2-0 for Bianconeri four minutes after the break with a simple tap-in after Douglas Costa’s strike was deflected into his path.

Allegri then made his first change in the 62nd minute after Ronaldo in place of goalscorer Kean, before Inzaghi made a change three minutes later, throwing on Godfred Donsah for Mattias Svanberg.

Bologna were a little bit better in the last quarter of an hour, but they lacked the quality in the last third as Szczesny was yet to make a save.

Juventus were never under any threat throughout the game and clinched a straight forward victory to reach the quarter-finals.
