Comfortable draw for SA teams

Absa Premiership champions Mamelodi Sundowns will face Miembeni SC from Zamzibar in the first round of the CAF Champions League, and assuming they make it past that hurdle, will meet Curepipe Starlight (Mauritius) or Coin Nord Mitsamiouli (Comoros Islands) in the second.

The Brazilians should make light work of those sides as owner Patrice Motsepe goes in search of realising a dream – to see the Chloorkop club crowned Kings of Africa.

Joining Sundowns in the Champions League are Platinum Stars, who finished runners-up in domestic competition in the 2006/07 season.

The Tycoons have been drawn with Lesotho Correction Services in the first round, and should they advance will meet the winner of the US Tamponnaise (Reunion) vs St Michel United (Seychelles) clash.

In the CAF Confederation Cup, Ajax Cape Town – winners of the 2006/07 Absa Cup – have been given a bye in the first round and will meet the winner of Anse Reunion (Seychelles) and Petit Riviere Noire (Mauritius) in the second.

The two-legged first round ties in both competitions will be played on the weekends of February 16-17 and March 1-2, while the second round games will be played on March 22-23 and April 5-6.
